University Studies in the USA
What are the best universities in the USA?
The United States of America has some of the most prestigious universities in the world. There are many students who prepare to apply for their desired university every year. This is one of the most decisive moments of the academic experience for any student. University rankings are updated every year, and these are taken into account by university students and international students who want to attend American universities. The web pages where you can register your application are: The Common Appplication y Universal College Application.
I elaborated the list below based on the study about the main American rankings.
The Main American Universities
Princeton University is located in the city of Princeton (New Jersey) and it is the fourth oldest university in the USA. Being admitted in this select institution is very complicated, since only 10% of students who apply end up being accepted. Besides the official application, you must also attach other tests such as a literary essay to the application form. There isn’t a minimum grade to be admitted, but a general evaluation by an examining board according to the student’s achievements. Due to this global evaluation, there isn’t a minimum TOEFL grade required.
Harvard is the oldest university in the United States and one of the most prestigious institutions in the world. Thousands of students send their application every year, but only the 6% make it. The prestige of this university is worth the effort, because a certification from Harvard will ease the career opportunities in a huge way. Harvard is especially prestigious in the field of economics. Its students have won tens of Nobel and Pulitzer prizes and celebrities like Mark Zuckerberg, Obama or Bill Gates studied there. The high price for tuition can be partly compensated with the scholarships offered by the institution. International students (who are a high percentage of the total) must speak English very well. It is not necessary to pass the TOEFL test, but it should be attached to the application if the results are good.
Yale is not only the third element on this list, but also the third oldest university in the United States. Despite being founded in Saybrook, shortly after it was moved to New Haven (Connecticut). Yale is part of the Ivy League list, an exclusive group of elite universities. To be admitted in Yale, it is not only indispensable to have an excellent academic record, but also a student profile that can add a “status” value within the campus. Jean Lee, one of the managers in the admission area, recognizes his interest in welcoming international students, and he specifically highlights the necessity of “adding value from Mexico”. The TOEFL grade required to apply for Yale is: 100 on the interned-based TOEFL, +600 on the paper test and 250 on the computer test.
Stanford is located in the South of California, in the Palo Alto area. The admission tests of this university are known for their difficulty and the low percentage of students who pass the entrance exams every year. Another disadvantage that must be taken into account is the fact that Stanford is located in one of the most expensive areas to live in the USA. It highlights the studies related to technology and research in different subjects. This institution has contributed a lot to the growth of the Silicon Valley area, since its classes have developed some of the most relevant technological projects at present, such as Google, Ebay, Yahoo or Hewlett-Packard, among others.
